Watermark’s Favorites: The Best Art in Brooklyn

Watermark Designs has been based in Brooklyn for a few decades now, and we’re proud to be in one of the richest cultural hotspots and art communities in the United States. There’s a wealth of art to see and experience here, and we wanted to take you on a tour of our favorite works. Here are six places to see some of the best art in Brooklyn today.

Brooklyn Bridge Park

The park at Brooklyn Bridge is worth a visit any time of year and often hosts outdoor art exhibitions from local and visiting artists. The Watertower at 334 Furman is on permanent display, however, and can be seen from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade or near Pier 5 in the park. If you’re looking for an outdoor excursion and some Instagrammable views, you’ll want to add this one to your itinerary.

A.I.R. Gallery

The A.I.R. gallery space exhibits the work of hundreds of women artists each year and has been an important part of the Brooklyn art community since the 1970s. The gallery is artist-run and functions as a non-profit. A.I.R. “has been leading the way in championing women artists, increasing their visibility and the viability of their endeavors” for decades now, and its impact on the art community is renowned even outside of the city.

Leroy’s Place

Leroy’s Place is a fun-for-the-whole-family destination in Brooklyn. It’s a gift store, art gallery and immersive creative space in one, and it is considered a hidden gem in Brooklyn’s Park Slope. Leroy’s is a must-see if you have kids or visitors from out of town who want to spend the day doing something artsy, exciting and totally different.

Murals add color and life to outdoor spaces and tell some of the most impactful stories from our vibrant community.

You can find a scattering of this outdoor art throughout Brooklyn, especially the Park Slope area. “Businesses continue to add a splash of color or piece of public art to the side of the buildings,” according to Your Brooklyn Guide. “Sometimes you see new ones if you take a walk after dark when businesses are closed and have a mural over their door.”

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Brooklyn’s Botanic Garden (BBG) is a work of art on its own, and it also functions as an educational and community space. But the Florilegium Society gallery is also impressive and includes the work of some of the country's most accomplished botanical artists.

The florilegium is home to collections of plant art, featured in watercolor, pen and ink. It’s the “perfect marriage of art and science,” and an enjoyable experience for plant lovers: The BBG also preserves thousands of specimens from the Garden’s own expansive herbarium.

Brooklyn Museum

The collections at Brooklyn Museum are world-renowned and always worth seeing, especially if you’re looking for a classic museum experience. The Brooklyn Museum has one of the largest, most impressive collections of Egyptian art in the United States, and it regularly exhibits local and global artwork for viewing.

Watermark Designs has been manufacturing bath and kitchen fixtures for a few decades now, right here in Brooklyn. Our designs reflect the innovation and creative community we live and work in — Brooklyn has always inspired our passion for great design.

Watermark has also worked closely with Brooklyn-based architects and designers on our products, resulting in some of our favorite spaces and product lines. Our very own Brooklyn collection was designed in collaboration with INC New York and was displayed in the South Street Seaport Museum.
